Lemon Laws to ‘Lemonade:’ Consumer Protection Issue Spotting

1 CLE credit pending approval by WSBA

This presentation will review legal authority protecting consumer rights in Washington, and help the audience apply those laws to some common problems confronting clients in Thurston County. Walter Smith of Smith & Dietrich Law Offices, PLLC will briefly review survey research highlighting frequent areas of client concern: health care, debt collection, and housing. The presentation will give a brief overview of legal authority on consumer laws and rights in each substantive area of client concern, and how consumer laws can help clients turn their “lemon” of a legal situation into “lemonade.” Topics that will be addressed include a basic overview of key rights and protections for tenants; for consumers buying or selling a home or facing foreclosure; for consumers in credit agreements and specifically for medical billing disputes; and finally, for recipients of unwanted telephone solicitations and robocalls

The evening will start with a light meal at 5:00 and the CLE itself will be from 5:30-6:30 pm.   Location:   Olympia Center, Room 101/102.

Please RSVP to Bonnie (attorney@tcvls.org)
