Black Lives Matter: We Join The Demand for Change

Thurston County Volunteer Legal Services (TCVLS) stands with the Black Lives Matter movement and their goal of dismantling anti-black racism and policies of oppression.

We grieve for the loss of George Floyd, Manuel Ellis, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Rayshard Brooks and so many other lives. The recent events of abhorrent police brutality are part of a long and terrible history of racial violence and injustice.

We join the demand for change.

We are inspired by Black leadership and their commitment to create a world free of anti-Blackness, where every Black person has the social, economic, and political power to thrive in a world free from racialized violence.

As an organization, we are looking at how our policies and delivery of legal services perpetuate Individual and systemic racism in our community. We are seeking input to identify and prioritize lasting changes that promote anti-racism and advocate for Black, Indigenous, People Of Color (BIPOC). TCVLS staff and Board of Directors will immediately take steps to develop short-term and ongoing plans for action and change.
